Memory

ZFS utilizes RAM for the Adaptive Replacement Cache (ARC) to decrease read times for the most recently or frequently used files. The size of this cache is determined by the available system memory. RAM is also utilized for compression and deduplication operations. Larger amounts of RAM are recommended when these features will be used extensively.
