Silicon Mechanics Now Offers AMD OPTERON™ 6300 Series Processors

Balances performance, scalability, and cost effectiveness to help lower total cost of ownership

Silicon Mechanics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of rackmount servers, storage, and high-performance computing hardware, announces that that it now offers the new AMD Opteron™ 6300 Series processors (NYSE: AMD), which deliver superior performance and scalability for virtualized server platforms central to private and public cloud deployments, big data systems, and high-performance computing (HPC) clusters. The new processors are now available in most of Silicon Mechanics' Rackform nServ server configurations

The AMD Opteron 6300 Series processors provide up to 3.5 GHz base frequency and up to 3.8 GHz using AMD Turbo CORE technology for a performance boost when demanded by specific applications. Up to 16 cores per socket are available for scaling on thread-intensive environments. AMD-P power management features maximize performance per watt across workloads while giving IT managers more control over their data center power profiles.

The new AMD Opteron 6300 Series processors achieve up to 24 percent higher performance than prior generation AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors in SPECjbb2005, a key server benchmark used to evaluate Java performance, a critical element for next-generation datacenters' software ecosystem. Per-watt performance is as much as 37 percent higher than the prior generation.

This can translate to low cost per virtual machine, the ability to host more virtual machines for greater consolidation while maintaining service level agreements, and the capability of deploying more robust virtual machines with more virtual CPUs enabled by high core counts, large memory capacity, and excellent bandwidth.
